If you’re reading this then the title got your attention. That means you or someone close to you has been suffering from some difficult symptoms. That someone used to be me. I was suffering for years. I had no idea what was going on and had to go on a long journey to find out what was causing it.
This is your disclaimer that I am not a doctor. I am not diagnosing you. Whatever information you get from here or anywhere else you should always double check.
There could be a plethora of things that google would say you’re suffering from. One to consider is P.O.T.S. Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome.
My first step was to see a doctor. I mean, I was literally bedridden! The doctor visits were definitely the most frustrating steps to all this. Most of my doctors had NO idea what I was dealing with. I saw my PCP, Neurologist, Autoimmune Specialist, Gynocologist, Cardiologist, Chiropractor and Holistic Doctor. That doesnt count the many times in and out of the ER. It was a rough couple of years to say the least.
It wasn’t until finally a doctor said if I was willing to drive 2 hours south that I should see a Dysautonomia Specialist. I remember feeling mentally and physically exhausted on that drive. I would waste my time explaining my symptoms for the doctor just to look at me like I’m crazy. THANK GOD it was different. I literally cried tears of joys when the doctor looked at me and said yes, I have POTS.
The dizziness is the main symptom you want to look for. Even though this could mean something else I feel like all POTS sufferers have had the dizzy symptom at some time. Sometimes they can be little “dizzy spell” like episodes and sometimes I felt like I was in the tea cup ride in the theme park. It wasn’t until I saw the specialist that I was able to develop a daily plan on how to take care of myself.
I want to end this by encouraging you. I was very very sick. Our hospitals bills were drowning us and my marriage was on the brink of destruction and the worst part is I couldn’t fix any of that because I was bed ridden. I just wouldn’t take no for an answer and I kept digging. Now, I go salsa dancing WEEKLY and I get spun so many times without getting dizzy! I hike, I play outside, I go to the beach. I worked my way out of debt and saved my marriage. So hang in there!
