Fight or Flight?

I HATE flying. When I walk down that path leading to the plane I can feel my heart begin to race and my body just wants to run back into the airport. The problem is I LOVE traveling!

Here I am flying into Boston for 24 hours just to help a bride lock down her dress!

So I’m gonna give you tips for flying if you are an anxious person or struggle with POTS, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.

  1. The most important step is gonna be a simple one. NO Caffeine! Most of us like to start our day with a cup of coffee or tea. If you’re an anxious flyer this a NO GO. You can have a cup as soon as you land but ANYTIME before do not do it.
  2. After I had my babies I noticed I got more motion sickness. I used to be able to ride rollercoasters and all the fun things. Now I look at them and get dizzy. This is not medical advice so be sure to check with your doctor. I take one of these 30 minutes before boarding. https://amzn.to/4ctHdai I also like having these in my purse for travel because it’s likely I’ll be on the water as well. These will help if there’s choppy waves!
  3. One of the things that will send me into a panic attack on the plane is if I squeeze into that tiny seat and the plane is HOT. I just CANNOT. My perimenopause will have me freaking out. So when I say a travel fan is a must I am not kidding. I prefer the neck one. It just cools me down better. I ordered mine off Amazon and they are rechargable so I love that.

4. This might be the most expensive recommendation but it’s a must for me. I HAVE to spend the extra money to pick a seat in the first 12 rows. Sometimes it’s not a big deal but let me tell you, if there is turbanlance you can definitely feel it more in the back. Spend that extra cash and sit closer to the front.

5. If you have a long flight. 3+ hours then any POTS sufferers must wear this! If you dont have POTS that’s fine these will also benefit you. https://amzn.to/4csbMgx I know I know, it’s ugly right? No one will see them under your pants so don’t worry! Please do not sleep on these. They work and can be used in other areas of your life!

Trust me.

6. After I was done freaking out in take off I was exhausted. I would cuddle up to the person next to me and knock out! Trouble is, I didn’t know that poor person next to me. Whoops! Dont cuddle with strangers. It’s just weird. Get this pillow. It’s affordable and avoids you from an uncomfortable landing.

7. Do you have a sensitive nose like I do? When you’re crammed into a plane like sardines sometimes you can smell things you dont want to. https://amzn.to/3RHbGbchttps://amzn.to/3RHbGbc Order this spray for your house but my trick is right before you leave for the airport spray it a few times in the end of your neck pillow above. The lavendar will help calm you and block any other unwanted scents.

8. Last but not least you need an airplane playlist of CALMING music. I only need about 8 songs from boarding to takeoff on repeat. Figure out what songs calm and distract you, download them and play those suckas nonstop! Here is my list

  • Adele – Remedy
  • Riley Clemmons – Fight for Me
  • Avril Lavigne – Head Above Water
  • Anna Kendrick – True Colors
  • Sara Farell- Issues (Acoustic)
  • Nic D – I’ll Set the Table
  • Tauren Wells – Hills and Valleys
  • James Arthur – Falling Like the Stars

I Think flying can be really hard for all of us. If you see someone struggling give them some grace. That someone could be you or me!

I hope this helps!

Love,

SB
