I have a little one that loves all things sensory. I didn’t even realize they were “sensory” until someone had mentioned it. Then I took an inventory of her favorite toys and realized they all fell under the category of sensory. Here are the ones we love in our house
- Pop Its– These are VERY popular. They keep the hands busy, help with coordination and have that soft touch that sensory sensitive kids like. I even caught myself playing with one while working on a particularly difficult work situation. These are small and make for great items to keep kids busy on long car rides.
2. Pop It Game– If your kids like the feel of Pop Its but are a little older and need a challenge then I suggest this game. It reminds me of the old Simon Says game but with the soft buttons. Its the perfect compromise of giving a game that’s not quite a “video game”.
3. Slime- Yes, slime is messy but if your child will sit and color then they might love this. Chances are they have already seen Kids Youtube videos teaching all about “inflating” it and adding charms. The cloud slimes are especially a favorite for sensory gifts. They can smell really nice too!
4. Montessori Busy Board- Montessori has already been a family favorite. The use of colors and wood just made their toys quality worth having. This is not a toy we had but a toy I WISH we had. We always had long car rides where my little ones were crying of boredom. This would have totally saved the day.
5. Squishy Stress Balls- I remember stress balls being all the rage for adults but now they make these for kids. My kids like to fidget, bite nails or pick at something. Idle hands and all that. These balls give them something to mess with. I would be lying if I didn’t release some stress with one as well.
6. Sloth Weighted Teddy- Weighted blankets and teddys really helped my little ones sleep better. Give this guy a spray of lavender and you’ve got the perfect snuggle buddy.
7. Squishmallows- Squishmallows are the beanie babies of today. If the weighted teddys are not to your liking try these. There are so many shapes and sizes its impossible not to find one you like. They all have names and back stories. If your little one likes to collect things try this.
I hope this helps you all find something to make your little one happy! Let me know if I forgot anything.
