Simple 4 Ingredient Rice Krispy Treats

I’m not going to waste your time and tell you a story about how making Rice Krispy treats at home magically changed my life. I will say that making them at home tastes WAY better than store bought. It has been tested on husband, kids and neighbors. They all agree. So if you have a stove and these 4 ingredients you can make these too. Lets get to it!

I’m not exactly the best photographer so you’re just gonna have to trust me when I say these are easy to make and so delicious they barely last a day in my house!

SANDALS Resorts (728 x 90)
  • 1 bag of mini marshmallows
  • 1 stick of salted butter
  • 9 cups of rice Krispy cereal
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla

Lets go over a few quick things about the ingredients.

Look at how chewy they are!

Marshmallows – Mini marshmallows melt the easiest. Save time and effort by getting the mini ones. I haven’t noticed a difference in taste if you get the off brand marshmallows. Save a buck and get those. The only thing I will say is to make sure your marshmallows are fresh.

Butter – Make sure it’s salted. The recipe specifically calls for 6 tbsp but each stick of butter comes with 8. I’m lazy so I threw the whole stick in and guess what? Didn’t taste any worse or better. Make your life easier and just melt the whole stick.

Rice Krispy Cereal – Again, save your money and get a bag of the off brand cereal. Nobody noticed the difference. Fresh is best.

Vanilla – This is where I need your attention. Get the good vanilla. Sure you can use the normal stuff but I swear the extra UMPH is from what kind of vanilla you use. Trust me!

These are going straight to my neighbors for future leverage.. err I mean love.

  1. Melt stick of butter in large pot on medium high heat
  2. Once butter is melted add whole bag of marshmallows but keep one cup of mini marshmallows set aside. Stir occasionally to make sure mixture doesn’t burn.
  3. Once marshmallows are melted add 1 Tablespoon of Vanilla.
  4. Turn off heat and move mixture off burner
  5. Add all 9 cups of Rice Krispy cereal to melted mixture. Do not mix but FOLD the cereal into marshmallow. It may seem like the ratio is off but trust the process.
  6. Once it all seems mixed add the last cup of marshmallows that you set aside. Fold in. Do not let them melt completely. This will create chunks that add texture to the treat.
  7. Pour mixture into 9×9 glass pan BUT dont forget to spray it first so the treats dont stick to it. Let mixture sit in refrigerator. Cut up and serve!
There you have it! Less than 10 steps and less than 20 minutes of work and you have delicious treats. Serve for your kid’s class party, ladies night or to sugar up your neighbors.
